FMX 2025

My FMX 2025 raw takeaways

* We are all worrying about jobs in VFX, we should stop hitting our head against the wall and look at immersive media, I asked CEOs and can confirm that there is more and more budget being allocated here.

* You can see this crisis as the end of “A” world (the world where jobs were steady and secure) but it’s also the start of a new world of “skill repurposing” and “experiencial” medias.

* Yes we’re all a bit rusty in regards to “self promoting” but leaving the desk for a day or two and being inconfortable meeting new people is needed now to find the next best gig.

* AI is getting less and less exciting as to get to 50% quality you just push a button , but to reach 98%, you still need the traditional workflow.

* No talks about team design (I’ll adjust this for 2026 😉

* I got useful feedback on “Beyond Normal” -> I’ve printed 10 copies and spammed the speaker lounge with it.

* I might be too old for tech demos (“eau qui coule” Walid BEN HENDA).

* Africa and Middle East might be the next big growth in new media (betting on Chocolate Tribe).

* Visual Effects Society membership is actually all about going to events – duh… took me 10 years to figure out. An amazing lunch was organized including Franck Lambertz as part of this amazing group of VES members.

* I’ve ended up standing next to godfathers of the industry like Franck Lambertz, Gabriel Dedic, Timo Schumacher, Paul Debevec, Kevin Baillie or Jan Pinkava. Worth the hostel!

* The panel organized by Simon Davies was an amazing experience, I’m hooked and want to organize panels myself now.
Thank you Simon for gathering this rock star panel: Tiffany Feeney 🔜 Annecy Festival, Adele Khawli 🔜FMX 🔜Game Dev Sessions and Felix Balbas!

* Had a blast with Ewa Jasniak, Arne Palluck and Walid BEN HENDA talking about everything but VFX.

* It’s exhausting and recharging at the same time… I think it’s the best way to build meaningful relationships and meet awesome people AFK.

* I’ll set an event budget and go next year from Montréal.

Thank you FMX – Film & Media Exchange!!!
